Shocking Bird Control - it's safe and harmless
There are three different types of bird control shock devices. All of
them worked great in initial tests, yet air insulated electric barrier
proved a much better value overtime than the others. Because shocking
devices control birds through behavior modification this is the best way
and most cost effective means of controlling birds. This is true for
pigeons, vultures, seagulls, buzzards, and any other pest bird that is
nesting or roosting on a preferred ledge, parapet, overhang, roofline,
sign, recessed area, or other place birds want to nest or roost. Some of
the shocking barriers are much better than the other ones. For example,
the air insulated shockling line electric barrier or electric bird
fence is by far the most efficient and longest lasting. Another option
is a plastic track, strip, or strap that is combined with conductors.
The final version of electric bird control devices is acrylic tape with
aluminum wires glued to the top. We will start with the best, the air
insulated electric bird control barrier or shocking wire line barrier.
The Air Insulated Electric Bird Barrier is by far the
most efficient bird control device available because it solves the
toughest bird problems with almost 100% success. Another benefit is that
air insulated electric barriers uses either ceramic or polycarbonate
insulators. The ceramic insulators will last a long time. The
polycarbonate insulators will last up to 25 years or more in direct
sunlight and up to 50 years or more in the shade. Thus when calculating
the lifetime cost of any bird control device the air insulated electric
barrier is best in a vast majority of situations because it is clearly
proven to be the most cost-effective while getting the best results.
Unfortunately, air insulated electric barrier is not a do-it-yourself
product. It requires professional design and professional installation.
The great news is that it does not really require any cleaning
whatsoever in most environments if it is installed and designed
correctly. Thus, maintenance contracts are not really necessary unless
the air insulated electric bird barrier bird control device is installed
in areas that have difficult and extremely costly access
because then the insurance of a maintenance contract may be worth the
investment. This is in contrast to electric barrier tracks, tapes,
strips, and straps, which require cleaning and maintenance contracts to
remain operational in most environments past five years. In addition,
electric barrier tracks, tapes, strips, and straps have a life
expectancy of less than 10 years in most situations. Let's talk more
about shocking tracks, strips, and straps.
"These tracks are good for many situations, except that the
materials will not hold up longer than 3 to 7 years for full sun and
areas within 1000 feet of the coast due to sea spray corrosion. The
systems are good for areas that may be cleaned easily because these
tracks must be cleaned. Humidity and Pollution create an electrolyte
film that conducts electricity and burns crevices and frequently ruins
the track. In addition, the electrical chargers pulse over 250,000
times per year at around 1000 volts, unfortunately soft plastic stress
cracks microscopically at each pulse (250,000 pulses per year) when
combined with pollution and humidity." Thus, there is most likely no
way for a metal conductor to fasten to a weather exposed soft plastic
surface without slowly ruining it with each pulse, which means this is
probably a short term product. Air Insulated electric barriers use hard
plastics like polycarbonate which lasts 10 times longer when submitted
to these electrical pulses. Air Insulated electric barriers are
insulated 99% by the air and need no cleaning and are resistant for
decades to moisture and pollution. Special sealing can make them
impervious to Sea Spray and Road Salt Spray.
Shocking tracks, strips, and straps have revolutionized the
do-it-yourself bird control device market. These are good solutions if
you can keep them both clean, dry, out of the sun, and away from the
ocean. Any of these do-it-yourself devices are easy enough for the
dullest of rat trappers, bug busters, and varmint chasers to install for
most very small jobs. Unfortunately many of these outfits will try to
overcharge on long-term maintenance contracts that would be unnecessary
with air insulated electric barrier. In addition, because most of these
outfits moonlighting in the bird control business have little to no
experience they are willing to sell a customer anything without really
knowing what they are selling. These handymen frequently install the
product incorrectly, not having the experience and knowledge to place
the product correctly, make the installation last, make the installation
look good, have the experience and know-how to repair the installation,
and worst of all will typically try to over sale the amount of product
that is necessary on a ledge or overhang by several times. For example,
air insulated electric barrier can protect a ledge a few feet wide with
one run, on the other hand, because birds can hop over a flat shocking
track it requires more runs and many of these inexperienced installers
and salespeople will try to sell you a new run every 5 to 10 inches.
This is usually unnecessary and makes the installation ugly and
inefficient. There will be more track to short out, more to maintain,
and a much higher probability that water will be dammed up behind or on
top of these very low profile tracks or strips creating a shocking water
pool safety hazard! The problem with track making this safety hazard
is that the electricity is exposed to the lowest puddles, while Air
Insulated electric barrier does not have this shocking safety hazard
water puddle problem because the electrical line is up 1.5" above the
surface and any water puddles. Nevertheless, for small jobs of less than
500 feet of ledge or parapet requiring only one run, thus a small job
of 500 feet or so, track products may be a decent option compared to
bird gel, bird spikes, non-electrified bird control lines and bird
control wires, sprays, fogs, nets, plastic owls, slanted boards, or
other less efficient bird control devices. Not to mention sound machines
that fail to work at all after 60 days, and yes typical warranties on
sound machines are only 60 days!
Shocking tapes look really good and work well to
keep some birds off of the edges of seaside docks. Unfortunately, these
tapes are more of a temporary bird control product than a permanent one;
however, they cost the same as a permanent bird control product
solution, yet they may only last a few years and must be cleaned or they
will short out. This is because it is a fact of electrical
physics that aluminum wires corrode and create a nonconductive layer
that must be cleaned off, otherwise the electric conduction properties
will be covered by aluminum corrosion. Thus, this product is totally
inappropriate for any application that is out of reach or must be
accessed via ladder, lift, boom lift, or other expensive labor-intensive
means. In addition, the acrylic tape allows mold to prosper underneath
it because most of the base surfaces are porous. Thus, this product is
completely inappropriate for any part of the country that has mold or
mildew problems in partial shade. Because most building ledges have
partial shade, except on direct south face, this product is not
recommended and completey inefficient!
The best bird control product is air insulated electric barrier that is designed and installed by proven professionals. It
will last, look, and work better than anything else in almost all
situations. There are handful of companies around the country that only
recommend air insulated electric barrier because the fact is it is the
best product in the bird control market. It works best, lasts longest,
looks virtually invisible, requires no cleaning, requires no maintenance
contract, and any owner that figures out the hot wire is positioned up
high and insulated from any grounding source can keep this system going
for several decades. It is the best deal in bird control.
